"Chinese Calendar Music"

Change the world? Why not? Or at least try to make a difference with your art when you can. That's what we're doing and putting into action. Thus, the creation of the Kickstarter program to raise funds so that we can go into the studio and complete the album that we started in April for World Autism Awareness Month.

Chinese Calendar Music for World Autism Awareness

The music’s goal is to connect the left and right side of the brain while listening and playing. To be OK with vocalizing in the middle of the music. To share in the creative process of expressing oneself through sound. There is no right nor wrong, no left nor right, just a path to rhythm, melody and sounds you may have never heard together.

The path we choose was to blend ethnic, traditional, classical, pop and jazz sounds and forms. Yet we stayed true to some of the prefered sonic items that kids with autism like, such as repeated motifs, the sounds of voices and rhythm and sound FX that are almost programmatic.

The Chinese Lunar Calendar names each of the twelve years after an animal. Legend has it that the Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from earth. Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward he named a year after each one in the order they arrived. The Chinese believe the animal ruling the year in which a person is born has a profound influence on personality, saying: "This is the animal that hides in your heart."

Having performed the music, but not having a great recording, we have decided to put forth our efforts to raise the funds we need to go into the studio and record and master the CD the way it should be done. Please help us at kickstarter to get the donations rolling. There are rewards at several levels.

April 2011 United Nations World Autism Day Event

The United Nations commemorates April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day.  To create awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and its effect on children and their families, the Franklin Foundation and the Frostig School will co-host a free concert on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.  This musical concert for parents and children will be held at the St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church, located at 1175 San Gabriel Boulevard in San Marino.
Hollywood producer Kevin Kent and Talented oboe player Price Kent will be the featured performing artists.  Following the concert, there will be special activities for the children, who will be able to participate in short, 15 minute art, music and special sports classes, which will be conducted by several of the teachers from the Frostig School.

Kevin and Price Kent have premised the musical program on the animals of the Chinese Zodiac in celebration of the international flavor shared by each character in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Chinese Lunar Calendar names each of the twelve years after an animal. The Chinese believe the animal ruling the year in which a person is born has a profound influence on personality, saying: "This is the animal that hides in your heart."

Kevin and Price Kent have been composing and performing music together since they met. Having done everything from impressionistic interpretations of art to playing rock and roll at the House of Blues the two share one theme, have fun and inspire at every opportunity.
Kevin’s education is a bit esoteric with early studies in ethnomusicology and electronic music, long before either were fashionable pursuits. His main instruments are keyboards acoustic and electric. He is just as comfortable behind the piano as the mixing desk.

Price is a classically trained musician with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music performance.  She has shared the stage with many internationally celebrated musicians and has performed on recordings in studios all throughout Southern California.   In addition to her professional endeavors as a musician, Price is also an attorney with Marcin Lambirth, LLP.  With her extensive background in the entertainment industry, Price is uniquely suited to assist her fellow artists, musician and producer colleagues with their projects from inception to completion and enjoys a host of successes both in the entertainment and legal industry.
